Born in the Philippines, raised in the dusty deserts of Arizona, now living in the rainy Pacific Northwest.
My illustration career began well over a decade ago. I was an art school dropout and still working as a bartender when I decided to take a chance on myself. Many of my first gigs were editorial illustrations. Since then I’ve done storyboarding, character design for an animation studio, many gallery exhibitions, a lot of illustration commissions, a few murals, a children’s hospital installation, and my first children’s book, TOLLY.
I love working with my hands and tactile materials. Most of all I love telling a story - whether it be with a colorful illustration, a handmade puppet, surface design, or a children’s book. I’m constantly inspired by my beloved city of Portland and its beautiful natural surroundings, old-timey things, acts of courage, my two small children, and Filipino culture.
Besides making art, I like going to the library with my kids, reading, fabric dyeing, coffee with pals, baking, gardening, and nature hikes.
I live with my husband Jake, a graphic designer, and together we’re raising Jun, a Star Wars enthusiast, Julian, an expert in vehicles, and Dashi, a very fuzzy calico cat.
