Cherry Blossoms

Every year, many Portlanders celebrate the return of Spring by visiting the section of Tom McCall Waterfront Park where one hundred perfectly aligned cherry blossom trees are in bloom from about mid-March through April. The trees were part of the establishment of the Japanese American Historical Plaza in 1990, and the pink fluffy blooms are a welcome sight after a typical dreary and rainy Oregon winter. I made this piece thinking of last Spring, when I took my children to the waterfront and spread a blanket under one of those blossoming trees. The sky was a perfect Cerulean blue and my kids ran over the grass and picked small daisies. It was a beautiful day.
